Seto Inland Sea: Miya-jima (Japan). Miya-jima is an important Shinto shrine. The Itsukushima shrine was first built in AD 592 and rebuilt in 1168 in the same scale as today. The 16 m tall Torii gate, built in 1875, marked the entrance of the shrine and indicate that all the island forms the shrine. 16 m tall Torii gate on 19 Nov. 2001 at high tide. |
